Movies WOW!
In the first video (1974) the time period is more accurately portrayed in the speech and music choices, however I feel that the way the second (2013) video better shows the whole party aspect of this scene. Although, in the older movie you do get more of the dialogue that happens in the book, whereas in the newer one you only get to hear owl eyes. In the new movie they do manage to make Gatsby, in my opinion, more mysterious by only introducing him through owl eyes and Jordon in the scene. This scene doesn't allow for much character development, however what you see of Nick and Jordon in the newer scene shows us that Jordon is a more fun and reckless person and where Nick sort of just goes along with her. In the older scene, it's a bit harder to tell whose who, to be honest, and the only real indication of who is who is by the dialogue they use. In my personal opinion, I feel that the 2013 adaptation is the stronger video, for this scene at least. Reason being, in chapter three when the party is described by Nick, he says "The bar is in full swing, and floating rounds of cocktails permeate the garden outside, until the air is alive with chatter and laughter, and casual innuendo and introductions forgotten on the spot, and enthusiastic meetings between women who never knew each other’s names." and in the older movie it just doesn't seem as lively as a party should.
